Guide: Dressing the Part

VISIT NEW SITE HERE!
Now If you ever plan on succeeding in your work life you need to dress the part. Simple as that, there is no way around it. Besides being punctual, courtesy and a natural leader you need to dress the part. Don't ever forget it.
This post is mainly for our male readers. I'm not going to delve into womens fashion, for the workplace, in detail. But to be honest a lot of basic clothing overlaps in mens and womens style. It doesn't hurt to read through it.

See, when you dress properly 365 days of the year you quickly establish an image that you are a career and goal orientated person. You will find yourself commanding respect a lot quicker. Mentally you will be able to hold yourself to a higher standard. (A very important concept) Because whether you know it or not you are worth more than you think.

You should be dressing well to work to establish and maintain an image. Obviously the image you want to create will be restricted by your work environment. You have to dress appropriately to the business you are in, the people you interact with and the position you hold in that company.

Common sense prevails you don't dress more formally than the manager or owner. And you most certainly don't throw on "what's comfortable". Unfortunately most will say, well I already do dress well enough. You probably take after the next guy at work and dress just like the rest. It's easy, you don't stick out you blend in. Well what is the point of blending in when you are trying to work your way up the company? You do need to be noticed and besides your stellar work you need to round yourself out in other areas. Such as dressing well.

Now unless you work for a wall street investment firm, where your clothing is picked out for at the door (formal dress attire, think pin stripes!), you will need to have a solid understanding of what you should and should not be wearing to work.

Before I go over all the clothing there are two things that need to be cleared up.
  • You need to try on all your clothing and ensure you have proper fit. If you have some nice work pants and dress shirts that are a bit baggy, find yourself a tailor. Actually, find yourself a tailor regardless.
  • As well, from now on you will iron all your clothing before you go to work. If you want to have a deeper appreciation for your clothing you need to get into the habit of ironing your clothing.
Now In the following blog entries I will lay out a couple pieces of clothing every man should have.
